Human-Centered Design core classes provide an opportunity for concentrated study of the HCD framework. These classes are project-based and can be taken alone, or to for use in a self-designed major, minor, or concentration. The core classes that the Hive offers are:
Design research classes allow you to practice gathering data, performing research, practicing empathy work, and learning from historical and theoretical examples. Classes under this designation help designers understand users, explore problem spaces, and perform user testing. Classes in the design research category can be broken down into several further designations:
Design practice classes help you hone your skills in the craft of design. Classes that fulfill the HCD Design Practice requirement are classes in which your major work is project-based, and where you leave the class having made something of substance. We define "design" very broadly, to include the categories below:
